It’s no secret that sleeping on the ground is cold, and a sleeping bag alone isn’t enough to keep you warm through the night. This is because over time the insulation underneath you is being compressed, and therefore loses its effectiveness. An R-value measures how well an object can resist heat and the higher the R-value of a sleeping pad, the greater it will resist heat transfer and keep you protected from the cold ground!
